Synopsis

Unable to study medicine as her family had hoped when they choose to send her to school, Sonamkyi has enrolled in the Cosmetology and Hairdressing program at an urban vocational school. Having had little study of Chinese language, she is challenged to learn quickly while adapting to urban living as well as her new course of study. Sonamkyi is a teenage Tibetan nomad girl faced with family disappointment in her course of study and the prospect of having to return home to help her mother tend livestock if her sister gets married. Friendship with two classmates from her home region provides humor and support far from home.
